Abracadabra Child Care – Who we are

Abracadabra is Melbourne’s longest established agency (1984) with the original owner and management which is Australian owned.

We were also a founding member and past Treasurer/Secretary of Australian Association of Nanny Agencies (A.A.N.A) 1994. This association instigated Police checks and First Aid certificates in the industry and which has finally led to the introduction of the Working With Children Card for child carers, which is now a legal requirement in Victoria as in some other states.

ABRACADABRA IN HOME CHILDCARE services is one of Victoria’s inaugural providers of In Home Childcare 2001, receiving Australian Government Funding from the Strong Families and Community Strategy: Choice and Flexibility in Childcare initiative. Abracadabra is a founding member of NICA (2005) and has served as a committee member of National In Home Childcare Association (NICA), now Australian Home Child Care Association.

Sandy Faure the owner is an accountant by profession. Sandy has experienced the difficulty of acquiring reliable child services first hand when she needed assistance after the difficult birth with her own child.

This Agency was created, while Sandy herself was a stay at home mum both frustrated with the lack of care services available in her local area and the drive of her business mind to return to the work force propelled the establishment of Abracadabra. Over 30 years on and the business has grown well beyond Sandy’s expectations and recently has gained support by the government incorporating the In Home Childcare scheme into her services, as one of the first providers in Victoria.

Sandy has a very personal relationship with both her clients and carers and is always fondly referred to as the cat lady.

All of our staff respect the client’s privacy & agree to the Agency’s Code of Practice.

Non Government placements incur an Agency placement fee including GST.

This fee applies to staff still working with the agency or for a period of at least 1 year after leaving or cancellation of our service.

Staff remain contracted to the Agency while working with the agency, or for a period of at least 1 year after leaving or cancellation of our service.

Our placement fee applies to any form of employment resulted from the agencies introduction.
